Release date: October 13, 2017

Blurb:

When a wild mustang is shot in Montana, renowned horse whisperer and telepath, Emma Horserider, is called in to calm the herd and find out what happened. Once on scene she is almost killed by a bullet-spewing drone, and calls her black ops brother for back-up.

Emma’s help roars into her life covered in tattoos and riding a Harley. Remote viewer Bronco Winchester takes the assignment because he is ordered to, but he wonders what type of assistance, his boss’s sister needs. That is until he sees Emma, a valiant Warrior Woman proud of her Crow heritage.

Posing as a married couple, Emma and Bronco go undercover to infiltrate and stop a hate group. Both are anxious enough without the now growing attachment they feel for one another. When the lives of many are on the line, they are not sure if they will live or die—let alone have a chance at love. One battle, one outcome. Who will win? Good or evil?

Excerpt:

Bronco now stood squinting in the late afternoon sun, knocking at a door with no bell,  and  waiting  for  a  response.  Dogs  barked  and a window  curtain  twitched.  Good.  Someone  was home. He adjusted his pack, leaned his head back, closed his eyes, and said, “Any time now.” As the words slid out of  his  mouth,  he  heard  the  unmistakable  sound  of a shotgun being pumped.

Uh. Oh.

He raised his hands. “Don’t shoot. I’m unarmed.”

Turning slowly to face his fate, his jaw fell open, and his  heart  rate  kicked  up  a  notch  from  being  on  thewrong end of a shotgun or from the weapon holder’s looks, he wasn’t sure. A raven haired Amazon in a tank top,  jeans,  and  metal  tipped  cowboy  boots  held  the Mossberg 500 in a perfect military stance. Long strands of hair blew across her face in the hot breeze. A large purple  bruise  bloomed  on  her left cheek. She squinted her dark brown eyes and gave him a laser-beam once over from his dusty black boots to his sweat soaked do-rag.

“Who are you, and what do you want?”

If he hadn’t been so intent on not getting killed, he would  have  spent  more  time  staring  at  those  full, luscious,  kissable  lips  and  thinking  about  how  she would taste. As it was, he guessed he had less than a minute to respond before getting blasted into the next county.

A Message from the Author One of the things I have learned in my life as an author, professor, wife, sister, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-aunt, and pet lover is that we are more alike than not. For me, romance is not only about the story of people falling in love, but also about connecting with readers and their lives. We are living in challenging times and at times those challenges can feel overwhelming. I call on each of us to take a moment to reach out and connect with other people. Let someone know they matter. It only takes a few words of kindness to lift someone up. You may be the one person who helps someone get through a rough patch.

Hugs,

Sharon

Author Interview

1. Woohoo! You are a published author. Describe a strong character trait you possess, good or bad, and how it helped you become a published author. Determination, I wrote and submitted to agents and was turned down. It wasn’t until I bought a kindle and discovered the self-published writer, Amanda Hocking and fell in love with her books did I realize that I could publish my books too!

2. Sometimes an author begins writing a story before they are aware of its genre. Did you choose your genre, or did it choose you? No I always know the genre. All of my stories have a bit of romance, even horror. Go figure.

  1. The plot thickens, or does it? Which one are you, a pantser or a plotter? I am a plotter with pantser tendencies. I know the end before the beginning, so I work backwards outlining, but as I write surprises pop up everywhere.

4. Fear 101: As writers it is our duty to make our characters face their fears. Have you ever included one of your own fears in a storyline? Yes, all the time. I think every character needs flaws and I pepper flaws and/or insecurities because it makes them human and me not needing a therapist. Ha.

5. Fear 102: Yes, deadlines are terrifying. Have you conquered the juggling act between writing and the rest of your life? What do you do when it feels like the balls are dropping all around you? No, I still haven’t figured it out and I add more to my life daily. I blow deadlines, miss birthday parties, and find an excuse to procrastinate, but without the ciaos I wouldn’t be me.

6. Switch positions with one of your main characters in a scene. What is the outcome, disaster or divine intervention? Ha. That’s a funny question. I can think of a scene when my character is riding a motorcycle and I think it would be a complete disaster. I can’t drive a motorcycle and I think I’ll crash all over the place.

7. Where is your favorite place to write? Add that one comfort food that you can’t do without. Surprisingly, at any coffee shop and I usually eat donuts and coffee while I write. I think the combo of sugar and caffeine makes me keep going.

8. Writing inspirations? Music. When I hear a song the words speak to me. I feel myself getting lost in the words and inspired.
9. You are introduced to your favorite author. Who is it, and what is that one burning question you must ask them? I’ve met her. I met H.P. Mallory at an RT convention and I went all fan girl on her be for asking her what’s been her favorite part, and she told me that it was a dream to see her books in Barnes and Noble. I can’t wait for that moment!

  1. I’ve gone mad – why don’t you come with me? Some people just don’t understand us writers. Name a quirky, writer-thing you do that friends wish you didn’t. I tell them to send me text messages with things that I say when my phone is dead. They always claim they partially wrote my books, but I just laugh.

GENRE: Paranormal Romance/Urban Fantasy

Blurb:

The journey of a spellbound woman, her friends, and the men who vie for her affections as she falls headlong into a world of vampires, witches and Greek gods. Friends become enemies and enemies become deadly as each seek to find the one thing that will bring true fulfillment.

Excerpt:

Unbound, Book Two

Hades closed the space between us. “I will return soon, my sweet.” He took my hand, kissing my fingertips, before releasing it. Then the three gods and Dawn disappeared.

Ben and I stood alone in the hallway as I moved closer to him. The lust from our kiss still lingered thick between us.

“Ben . . . I—”

“Shhh.” His finger touched my lips, stopping my rambling. “We have only a short time, and I need to plead my case to you; so let me show, rather than tell you why it should be me you pick for eternity.”

Adderley’s Bride

by Danita Minnis

Excerpt

By dinner time, the fire going in her room cast shadows on the opposite wallpaper’s whimsical foliage design. She brought up a tray with leftover stew and sat in the window seat, eating by the light of a single Tiffany lamp on the side table.

Outside her corner bedroom window, it was full dark at six p.m. Lamp posts trailed down the hill along the edge of the lawn. There was a black band of darkness beyond that and she remembered there was a stand of trees in that area before another rolling hill led to the next property.

It was so quiet here. Different from the city further south that never slept. It was never silent or this dark there with all its sights and sounds. She felt like someone had turned the volume down so that she could think, and plan.

From outside, she heard a horse neigh. She looked up at the window to see a dark horse and rider bound across the lawn.

Blinking away tears for a better look, she watched as the large black horse jumped gracefully and so high.

She squinted, trying to get a better look. The horse’s hooves didn’t appear to touch the ground. The rider sat expertly through the cavorting as if letting the horse have its head.

She couldn’t see the horse and rider clearly because they were too far away. With the darkness, they appeared in silhouette. Horse and rider arched once more and then as quickly as they had appeared, disappeared into the stand of trees beyond.

The Danvers must have a horse, but why ride across her lawn? She’d check in the morning to see if the horse’s hooves had damaged the landscaping. Maybe she would pay the Danvers a visit.

In the reflection of the glass, she caught a movement behind her. A tall man stared at her from the soft forest glow in the room. Against the backdrop of the green leaves in the wallpaper, there was an impression of short, dark hair and sharp angular features before his light eyes bore into hers. They glowed with such intensity that she could not look away. It was an effort to fight the pull, but she managed to jerk her eyes away from the window.

She jumped up and the tray and bowl of stew clanged to the floor. “How did you get in here?”

The spot on the throw rug in front of the bed where she’d just seen the man was empty.

Author Interview

  1. Woohoo! You are a published author. Describe a strong character trait you possess, good or bad, and how it helped you become a published author. I’ve always been able to play devil’s advocate. I find it interesting that people in any given situation can usually defend their actions whether they are right or wrong. I’m very curious and sympathetic toward people of every age, gender, race and I find that most human beings are fascinating. My sympathy and empathy for people has given me a very broad perspective when making up new characters. I love putting myself in other people’s shoes and imagining what their motivations are.                           I’m also an extremely detail oriented person. If I’m immersed in a project, job, or hobby, I have to know everything about it. I love to study and learn about new things. These personality traits and hopefully many others help me craft detailed plots, scenes, and intriguing, relatable characters. I also have a great sense of humor and I like to say surprising things. I hope this comes across well in my fiction.

  1. Sometimes an author begins writing a story before they are aware of its genre. Did you choose your genre, or did it choose you? No doubt about it, paranormal chose me. When I first started writing this series, my main character – an angel of death named Nathaniel – came to me when I was half asleep and lying in bed. That’s where it started and four books later, I am now writing a short story about a family of witches.

Custom Book Cover Jody 3 Official resized - 640 x 960

  1. The plot thickens, or does it? Which one are you, a pantser or a plotter?Overall, I’d say I’m a plotter. I’ve written novels from the seat of my pants and I’ve outlined other novels from start to finish. I like to let the story guide me and if I can visualize the entire plot ahead of time, then I’ll write it down so I don’t forget it. But, I’m also a yoga teacher and one of the basic lessons in Hatha yoga is staying flexible, not just physically, but also mentally. One of the greatest thrills in writing fiction is when one of my characters surprises me and does or says something totally unexpected and fantastic. Then I go with the new twist or turn and see where it leads.

  1. Fear 101: As writers it is our duty to make our characters face their fears. Have you ever included one of your own fears in a storyline? I write about losing the people you love most in the world. So, yes, I definitely write about my own personal fears. Besides writing about the great unknown of life after death, I also write about the more immediate apprehensions and struggles in daily life. In Angel Dreams, my main characters face some brutal realities like suicide, drug abuse, and what it’s like to be suddenly forgotten by the love of your life. Juliana conquers enormous personal hurdles and then she helps others do the same.                                                                                                                                                     Fiction is inventive, but there are grains of truth hidden in the lies. I think for most authors, the writing is always very personal on some level.

  1. Fear 102: Yes, deadlines are terrifying. Have you conquered the juggling act between writing and the rest of your life? What do you do when it feels like the balls are dropping all around you? Another yoga lesson is balance — this may be a life lesson in general — but I use it in my classes. Balance is the key to staying sane and not letting one aspect of your life take control. Sometimes I succeed in finding a healthy balance between family, work, recreation, and the daily business of life and other times I don’t. Organizational skills are a weak point for me. I have to continually work at it so my life doesn’t turn into total chaos while I continue to stare at my computer screen – something I can easily do for months at time. Honestly, I probably need to hire a professional for advice on time management and how to keep my house respectable, but in the meantime, I try to remember to stay balanced.

  1. Switch positions with one of your main characters in a scene. What is the outcome, disaster or divine intervention? At the beginning of Angel Dreams, Juliana makes a hasty decision to help an innocent girl that she sees in the forest. The girl is moaning and being carried away by a man that scares Juliana, but she thinks she recognizes the teen-aged girl and follows them anyway.                                                           If I could switch places with Juliana at this moment and avoid the whole terrifying blood-letting ritual in the forest with a warlock and demons, then Juliana and Nathaniel could have had a sweet young romance instead of a supernatural adventure.

  1. Where is your favorite place to write? Add that one comfort food that you can’t do without. I can write anywhere there isn’t distraction. So basically I don’t have a favorite spot. Distractions are everywhere — family, pets, phone, internet, they all keep me from getting into the writing zone. Late at night after everyone is asleep is when I am the most productive.                                                                                                     Comfort food: Whatever my current favorite hot beverage is – usually coffee or tea. And I admit, I love chocolate and have a stash in the kitchen cabinet.

  1. Writing inspirations? I find inspiration from other authors all the time. A gorgeous phrase, metaphor, or paragraph can spark my imagination and get me writing. I also listen to a lot of music.

  1. You are introduced to your favorite author. Who is it, and what is that one burning question you must ask them? I seriously couldn’t pick only one and since you didn’t specify whether the author had to be alive, here is a list of a few favorites: Henry David Thoreau, Edgar Allan Poe, Sylvia Plath, Diana Gabaldon, and Charles Frazier.                                                                                                                                   I have two questions for them:                                                                                               What are five of your all time favorite books?                                                                             What would you tell your younger self about pursuing a writing career?
  1. I’ve gone mad – why don’t you come with me? Some people just don’t understand us writers. Name a quirky, writer-thing you do that friends wish you didn’t. There have been times when I have made plans to go out, or run errands in town, and then at the last minute when everyone is ready to go, I’ll ask my husband if he minds going alone so I can stay home and write. The look he gives me in those moments is precious to say the least. Other than that, I have to wonder if my friends get tired of me talking about my books. If you’re a friend of mine reading this right now, leave a comment so I know what weird thing I’m doing and not aware of. Go ahead and be candid about it, that way I can use it in a future book! *wink*

Angel Dreams drop shadow 1600 x 2400

Available in Paperback & Ebook on Amazon

Supernatural boundaries will be crossed as Angel of Death, Nathaniel Evans, risks his eternal soul to save the one he loves, the paranormally gifted and nature-loving, Juliana Crowson.

While working with a new client, Nathaniel finds out that pissing off a demon-wielding warlock in order to help a suicidal teen with misplaced sexual tendencies may be the last thing he ever does as an angel. Unable to stand aside, Juliana’s involvement in Nathaniel’s new case quickly develops into a misadventure with gun-toting bikers, table dancing, and a shamanic exorcism performed by her temperamental Native American friend, Chris Abeyta.

Can Nathaniel and Juliana’s love endure blood-letting rituals in the forest while helping a terrified teen find the will to live, or will fate and the rules of the afterlife tear them eternally apart?

Read an Excerpt from the Novel

The melting butter sensation had made its way to my back and is creeping north and south simultaneously. In another minute I’m going to be a warm puddle. “An Irish Dullahan is a being that comes at night, he’s headless, and forewarns of death.”

“Ah, maybe that is what I used to be, but definitely not anymore.”

His velvet rich voice caresses me from the inside out. I can feel his strength pulsing through his fingertips as he strokes my palm. His clean scent lingers in the air and I let myself drift away with the symphony of sensation.

“Sweet vixen, are you all right?”

“Hmmm?”

“Are you falling asleep?”

“No, why?”

“Your eyes are closed, love.”

“It’s fine. Please don’t stop, Nathaniel.” There it is again, a part of my brain notes, speaking without my permission.

He raises my hand to his lips and kisses the heel of my palm, then the inside of my wrist and up my forearm to the inside of my elbow. The top of my shoulder becomes his next destination and then along the edge of my collarbone. I want to protest — remember, taking things slow — but the jelly which my insides have turned into must include my voice box because recognizable sounds are no longer possible. Feather soft tickling on the side of my neck leaves me breathless, and all reason has now left the building. Somehow my hands have joined my betraying mouth and are doing things without my consent, like they have a separate mind of their own, even though I can still feel what they feel. Strong cords run up the back of his neck. The thick waves of his hair are soft and scrumptious between my fingers. My hand wraps around the base of his skull as he teases the underside of my jaw with his too warm mouth. My other hand moves over his muscular shoulder and down his back. He’s so strong and so solid.

At some point I must have pulled him on top of me because I’m suddenly aware of the smell and feel of crushed grass beneath me. My ear is being nibbled and I can hardly breathe, not because of the weight of him, but because of the sheer excitement and the rush of blood pounding through me. It’s taken my breath away. Turning my face to find his mouth, he’s all too agreeable to meet me. My self-control has become as distant as yesterday’s breeze.

“You have the most kissable mouth I’ve ever seen,” he whispers and then proceeds to prove his statement.

Nathaniel is strong and gentle and urgent and tender. I send out a silent prayer to Father Time to let this perfect moment last forever. How did I not know kissing could be like this?

ADDERLEY’S BRIDE

DreamNightmareAntho

Excerpt:

“You are a delicacy,” he said in her ear.

Sofie woke with a slow smile. She felt tingly inside, relaxed and exhilarated at the same time.

He’d given her what she had always secretly wanted but had been afraid to ask for up until now; wild, passionate sex. The kind that satisfied her on all levels. Mouth-wateringly good.

She turned her head on the pillow toward the sound of his voice. “And you are the most delicious man I have ever…”

She was in bed alone. Frowning at the pillow next to hers, she re-played their love-making in her head. All that had happened between them had been a dream.

She sat up, not at all surprised to find that she was naked again. “This isn’t happening…who are you?” She looked around the room. “Where are you?” She said louder, and then put her head in her hands.

“Of course it was a dream. I don’t even know who he is, I wouldn’t let a stranger…I am having a nervous breakdown. You Bastard, you did this to me.”

She must be going through Levi withdrawal. That’s why she was having these hot dreams. Then why couldn’t she shake the feeling that she was being watched? Even more alarming than that; she didn’t mind a bit.

She was enjoying the man with the golden eyes. Even though he was all in her mind, he was gorgeous and funny and so sexy. She loved the feel of his big body over hers. The way he took control of her body. He was a creative lover and put his all into it, into her. He knew just what she liked and didn’t mind getting messy.

“Better in bed than the Bastard.”

A lusty chuckle floated through the air and she looked up.

Adderley’s Bride: Beignets and Teamwork

DNA Danita's quote card

Happy Weekend All!

Now that The Dreams and Nightmares Anthology is released I can reflect on my experience in the making of this ‘first’ for me. Yes, this is the first time I’ve collaborated with other authors to create and I must say I loved the entire process. I made new friends and got closer to others. It was teamwork, it was fun. A shared excitement in every step of the process from choosing art to writing blurbs buoyed me for months. I’m not the graphic techie I want to be but I know a few now. 🙂 The learning process just continues and even that is exciting. I’m so grateful to Charlie Daye for getting us all together on this awesome anthology. 🙂

Teamwork is awesome guys – who agrees with me? No matter what team you belong to when your goal is accomplished the rewards ripple across your life like nuggets of knowledge that stay with you forever. Right now, I’m grinning from ear to ear as I write this. I hope you enjoy this excerpt of my story Adderley’s Bride from The Dreams and Nightmares Anthology. It’s all about teamwork.

Adderley’s Bride: The Dreams and Nightmares Anthology

He came up behind her at the island as she was kneading dough for the beignets.

The spacious kitchen should have been cold in the middle of the night but the hard body against her back enveloped her in warmth. She curled into him. At five-foot-four, her head only reached his chest. His pecs were a firm pillow.

In the seductive veil of the dream, her peripheral vision blurred so that she felt more than she saw. The only light on in the kitchen was the overhead light which pulsed above them. A thought teased her consciousness that maybe it was not the overhead light at all, but something more.

“Ah, Sweet Sofie.” He shifted until he was nestled between her legs. “I am drawn to you like a moth to a flame.” His arms came over her and as he helped her knead the dough, his shaft slid in and out between her legs.

She sighed her pleasure and leaned her head against his chest. Watching his big hands over hers with flecks of the flour and sugar mixture coating the hair on his knuckles was an erotic vision of teamwork. She wondered how those hands would feel as they kneaded her flesh.

Their hands worked in time to the rhythm of his slide, in and out. Their fingers clenched onto the mound of dough as he pushed forward, and released as he slid out from between her thighs. Their heavy breathing was the only sound as they clenched and released, clenched and released…

A lazy heat flared between her legs, warming her to the core and making her hips rock back and forth. Her legs were giving way and she spread them wider to stay upright. She stopped kneading the dough to lean over and hold onto the island.

He grabbed her hair, wrapping it around his hand so that she had to lean her head back against him. “Don’t stop,” his gentle scolding tickled her ear. “I have not had a decent beignet since I arrived in these United States.” He released her hair and pressed closer. She was now trapped between the island and his lean hips. “I’ll hold you up.” His low chuckle was a hot vibration between her thighs.

His gaze wandered to the sexy quirk of her lips.  “How did you end up at Penrods?”

“My mother and I spent summers in the States visiting her friends, roaming
Manhattan. It was on a visit to the diamond district that I fell in love with antique
jewelry. I sketched the designs through the shop windows.” She shook her head in thought, “I guess it was all part of the Plan.”

“Plan?”

“To be the top designer in the industry.” Although she kept her teasing tone, he could tell she meant every word she said.

“Well, number two, at least,” he remarked, just as serious.

“When the time is right, I will start my own design firm,” she warned.

For a few moments, the ordered visage of the self-control freak had vanished. But it was back now, like an armored mask over her face, and he wanted it gone.

“Did you know your lips quirk into the most fetching curves when your dander is up?” he asked.

Her words came to a halt as if she had forgotten the many words in her English vocabulary. When she gave him a blank stare, he caught her off guard with something he had been thinking about since that night in her apartment.

“No time for love? Not even in college, Beauty?”

She hesitated before answering. She could not bring herself to speak about Emil Garamonde. Her college beau was a safer topic. “There was someone, but my work…”

“You did not love him?”

“I’ve never been in love.” She looked down at her hands and fell into silence.

“You have been working, and to all intents and purposes, living at Penrods.”

She looked up at him. He, too, was surprised by the harsh note in his voice.

“I love my work. There was never much time for…anything else.” She exhaled; no doubt, because she knew her excuse was no excuse at all. “It seems a strange concept now sitting here with you.”

“Ah. That’s my girl. Aren’t you relieved now that you’ve admitted it?”

The mask softened into a stubborn grin. “Are you my confessor? Will you grant penance for the indiscretion?”

“Only if I have your word you will change your ways.” He stood and held out his hand to help her to her feet.

Something whizzed past his ear, lifting the hair on the nape of his neck. The sound was foreign to the forest, and he reacted instinctively. He pushed Amelie back down onto the grass and covered her with his body.

He lifted up enough to scan the trees, dense coverage for anyone with a purpose. Even as he thought of this, he was aware of how soft and full Amelie’s breasts were against his chest.

There was a bit of metal protruding from the tree in front of them, a bullet. Someone had just shot at them, barely missing him.

“What is it?” She squirmed her rounded hips underneath him and he was instantly rock-hard.

“Stay down.” He could see nothing out of the ordinary through the trees. The person had used a silencer. His knee slipped between her legs.

“What’s happening?”

“I am afraid that was a stray shot.”

“Do you mean someone shot a gun? I didn’t hear anything.”

“Let’s get back to the car.” He got up slowly, lifting her with an arm about the waist and bracing her with one leg between hers. He stopped himself before picking her up and carrying her off. She probably wouldn’t go for that. Reluctantly, he released her, keeping his body in front of hers as she brushed the leaves from her skirt. “Probably just an illegal fox hunt. I’ll get Lyle on it.”

Amelie sat staring out the window at the passing countryside as they drove the mile
back to St. Clair Manor in silence and he wondered who was trying to kill him.
