Author Interview

How did you choose your genre? What made you write this book?

It kinda chose us. We write so many different things, but we were working on an ancient Atlantian saga and decided we really wanted to be a little more erotic and explicit in detail, but we decided to check into what other authors were writing first to see what works for readers. Lora Leigh and Kim Dare were among our firsts, needless to say we’ve been hooked ever since.

Stories pop in our heads all the time, sometimes it’s a line, a picture, a character from something else that stimulates a deeper idea or a situation. Then everything else falls in around it. Bond of the Lycaon Concubine literally started with the bar scene, which is unusual for us, We don’t write start to finish we do patch work.

Writers write what they know, and must observe the world. Are you a first born, middle or last child and how does this shape your view of the world?

We’re twins with no other siblings, and I’d say it has a lot of influence of how we lived and write, because no matter what we had each other, to push, nag, growl and support. Because of that twins and closely bonded siblings find their way into most of our books, though it’s never planned.

Where is your favorite place to write?

There is a section of the living room that’s been converted into an office space, with two desks, lots of shelves for notebooks, three monitors for multitasking. However since we live in Florida, a laptop at the beach works too.

How do you feel about killing your darlings, and what do you do with the remains?

It depends on the genre. We have a few coming out, that we just leave the remains right there for the buzzards. But in some of our others, we hand out tissues, because if it happens, you’re going to be bawling your eyes out.

You are introduced to your favorite author. Who is it, and what is that one burning question you must ask them?

Okay WOW, but there are so many. However, the question is always the same. Boxers or Briefs?

Inquiring minds want to know…tell readers something about you that no one knows.

But then someone would know… lol. But, I will share with you something that isn’t commonly known among our reader fans, though Talon has never been the least bit shy about telling you how many body piercings he has. All in one… general… area. He has 10 below the waist. And I have 28, none of which are below my belly button.

You are stranded on a deserted island with only a back pack for company. What three items are in your survival pack?

Prin> Paper, pen, and satellite phone. “Come get our asses, we’re out of Charmin.”

Talon> Well with her stuff we can still write and call for help. So my bag will have the pillow, Eddy’s Rainbow Berry Sherbet and a fan.

If you could have one super power in your existence, what would it be?

Are you kidding? Teleportation, hands down.

Favorite snack?

Eddy’s Rainbow Berry Sherbet, Hagan daz Salt caramel truffle, Jelly beans and cheese. Mtn Dew is a snack and a food group.

Indy 500 – Do you know how to get where you’re going or do you drive the speed limit?

Both, we’re writers; we can’t afford today’s speeding ticket fines, or the gas. lol

Interview was filled out by Author Princess SO with Talon’s responses in mind, posthumous.

Synopsis:

MF/MFM/ Paranormal Shifter/ Erotic Romance

“So you think you know the story of Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf? Think again—”

Raina grew up with the faint memories of her grandmother’s fairytales. Tales that told her she was a part of something far greater than her lonely nomadic life gave existence to. But, when she finds she’s been among the one thing she desired most, can she let go of her more human-raising to submit to it?

Tristan has had a wild hunger for the saucy minx ever since she started working at the Hell hound Tavern. When a close call with a rival pack meant risking exposing the beast he was to Raina, he wasn’t expecting her to submit to the beast as his mate. As the Beta to the pack Alpha, Tristan can’t keep a mate to himself, but the secret she holds says otherwise.

However, keeping a Lycaon Concubine might mean leaving the pack in order to protect his Alpha, who’s status has kept a pack, 500 strong, safe for generations.

BLC MASTER COVER 300dpi copy (1)

Excerpt:

“Got a penny?” Raina asked pointing to the fountain ahead of them.

Tristan gave her a skeptical glance, while he fished through his pocket for a penny, “You really want to make a wish?”

“Oh, yeah.” She gave him a daringly sultry look, “I’m thinking I do.”

Tristan blinked heavily at her, taking notice of her dark expression and tone. He passed the penny to her hand, “Okay, but so’s you know, you’re scaring me.”

Raina stepped up to the fountain and closed her eyes for a moment.

Tristan watched the almost dreamy expression on her face. Damn, she looked good under the moon. He’d been falling for her for some time now, but watching her now, he believed he was helplessly captured.

Her hand went up, tossing the coin into the water with a slight plunk sound. She watched the ripple spread out on the water’s surface a moment taking a deep and fitful breath before turning to face him. Seemingly waiting for something.

“So what did you wish for?”

Raina rolled her lips in a nervous gesture, stepping closer, “A kiss.” And she pushed up on her toes, bringing her lips to his.

The first touch was light as a feather, like the kiss of a ghost and he found himself haunted by his wanting of it. He leaned down to her, cautiously allowing the contact of her soft lips. Soft and tender as she pressed against his and he felt a tender warmth flow through him.

Her lips parted, but only enough to allow him a taste of her breath— like the morning dew she was, and it was gone. His breath caught in his throat watching her step back. His head swayed, surprising him. No way a single kiss should feel so sensual, but it did. His breath deepening, his hand fumbling through his pockets and procured a handful of coins, which he held them out to her with a boyish grin.

Raina laughed, she wasn’t fooled by that look. For all his intentions of looking innocent just made him look all the more like a sexy bad boy. He reminded her of one the actors from that old 80’s movie, Lost Boys, the vampire bad boy with long black hair and just as drool worthy. Or perhaps, maybe more, because Tristan had one hell of a body hiding under his shirt.

“I think I got a fifty in my wallet. Will paper money work in the fountain as well?” He joked, then again, he’d offer damn near anything to feel that kiss again.

“Gee, I don’t know.” She toed the ground in front of her, “I mean, I’m concerned I might be hurting someone else’s feelings if I accept.”

“What do you mean?” This wasn’t good. Why would she dare to kiss him if she was involved with someone else? But that didn’t make any sense either; he’d worked with her enough days of the week to know she didn’t have a boyfriend or lover of any sort. He’d watched her too often to not know.

“Well, there’s this barback I work with and he’s pretty hot, except he wears these crazy—”

Tristan’s mouth was over hers before she could finish her sentence. The coins in his hand spilling to the ground around their feet as he reached around to her back to pull her to him.

His tongue parting her lips to open up for him, letting him into the warm cavern of her mouth. The taste of hot, sweet honey awaited him, drew him to probe deeper, his tongue tangling with hers. He had often fantasized what it would feel like to kiss her, to taste her, but he had not dreamed it would be like this. From the moment his lips took hers, he was lost in her. Pleasure spiraled around his nerves, hunger wrapping around him, it emanated from her and licked his body with burning flames.

God, her kiss was good. And he needed to have more of it.

He stepped into her, forcing her to walk back, pushing her towards the garden wall that circled around the fountain, his hands moving around to grasp her hips and lifted her up on the wall. He pressed between her legs and she broke away from his kiss, gasping with ragged breaths that fought for air. His own lungs heaving in his chest. He was already regretting the loss of her lips. A firm hand clasping around behind her neck to pull her back to him, connecting with her, pressing his forehead to hers. He would give her only a moment longer— a flicker of time to catch her breath.

“So how many coins was that, you had?” She managed to ask through her panting.

“Oh hell, I got a whole jar full at home I plan to use up.” He pulled her back to him. If she had regained her breath enough to talk, then she could take his kiss again.

Laurel Cremant Spotlight: Midnight Mistletoe & Wynter’s Fall

Midnight Misltetoe

MIDNIGHT MISTLETOE

(The Golden Pack Alphas, Book I)

AUTHOR: Laurel Cremant

GENRE: Paranormal Romance

LENGTH: Short Story

PUBLISHER: Winged Moon Publishing

BLURB:

WARNING: This short novelette/short story of 8,000 words is the first book in this serial and contains snarky dialogue, extremely inappropriate uses of mistletoe, alpha HEROINES and the weres smart enough to chase them.

All were-hybrid, Georgia Walker wants for Christmas is to spend some time away from her pack and in particular, away from one increasingly dangerous enforcer turned Beta. She has every intention of spending her days basking in the warm Caribbean sun and indulging in an island fling, or two. Anything to forget the way a certain were made her pulse race and skin tingle.

Marcus Legrand has only one goal this holiday season, bring Georgia home and finally claim her for his own. Convincing the strong willed ice princess will take all of his skill and patience, but Marcus is no stranger to hunting prey. He has every intention of putting both his rank and heart on the line.

EXCERPT:

Taking a deep breath, she reached her arms overhead, arched her back and inhaled the balmy salted air.

She could almost hear her muscles sigh, but despite the relaxation attempting to spread through her limbs, her body tingled with a tension she knew settled too deep.

Her heat cycle was starting, and there was nothing she could do to relieve the discomfort.

Well almost nothing.

Dropping her hands back down to her sides, she swept her gaze across the small beach. It wasn’t crowded but had a fair number of sunbathers and Zen cravers. And most importantly it had men looking for the same thing she was—a little fun, forgetfulness and zero strings.

Although heat pooled to her center, her stomach rolled in apprehension.

In the past she’d had no problems with finding a willing male to sleep with when she was in heat. She enjoyed sex, and although each year her parents hoped she would chose a permanent mate, no man in or outside of her pack inspired much feeling or devotion. At least not enough for her to be shackled to for life.

But last year, because of The-Wolf-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named, no one appealed to her.

Instead of rolling around for several hours with a well-endowed chosen playmate, she’d remained locked in her home for days with her vibrator and a healthy supply of batteries.

She had no intentions of repeating the experience. This week, she planned on proving to both her body and wolf, that Marcus wasn’t the only man capable of making her hot.

Her gaze combed the area, looking for a good candidate.

One particular man caught her eye.

He’d been swimming for the last hour, his caramel arms cutting through the water in languid strokes. But now he rose out of the surf resembling a naughty sea nymph, his strong legs leading up to deep blue board shorts. Dry, she guessed the swimming trunks were perfectly modest—but wet they molded to his thick muscled thighs and cupped his cock in a way that left very little to the imagination. And since Georgia’s imagination was better than the average wolf’s she bit back a groan and clenched her thighs tight.

Yum.

Pushing her sunglasses up to her hair, she licked her lips as her gaze traced the diamond bright droplets of water running down his hard chest. They sluiced down his body, aided by the tight ridges of muscles along his abdomen, tunneling down to what looked like one hell of a stocking stuffer.

Merry Christmas to me.

Yes, an island getaway was proving to be the perfect holiday treat.

Her gaze meandered back up his chest and after making a brief note of thick smooth lips and tempting dimples, she made eye contact with her merman come to life.

His eyes gleamed with interest and her lips turned up in her best come-hither smile. He took a step forward and then froze, his gaze focusing on something just over her left shoulder. Shaking his head he turned and continued walking down the beach.

What the hell!

She frowned at his retreating back. Admittedly she was no super model but, she’d never had a problem with luring men her way.

A long shadow fell over her and it was her turn to freeze. Despite blocking out the sun, a heated scorch rippled down her body as the approaching shadow crept down her body. Her nipples pebbled to thick points, her pussy clenched and a slow growl worked its way up her throat.

Only one thing made her body react this way and she’d deliberately left it back in Golden Valley.

“Hello Gigi. Miss me?”

Wynters Fall Cover Final CC

WYNTER’S FALL

(WYNTER TALES, Book I)

AUTHOR: Laurel Cremant

GENRE: Modern Fairy Tale Romance

LENGTH: Novella

PUBLISHER: Winged Moon Publishing

BLURB:

An unsuspecting mortal, A Keeper of Dreams, And a group of Gods intent on reclaiming powers they no longer deserve…

Melania Wynter has a big problem, the man of her actual dreams is becoming all too real. Determined to gain back some control over her life, she hopes that a a little vacation will be enough for her psyche to stop comparing her real life to the vivid dreams she’s had since childhood. But one patch of ice, a solid pine tree and a nasty bump on the head derail her plans.

Daiomone, Keeper of Dreams has always been drawn to Melania. He’s bided his time, waiting for her to cross-over to his realm, but manipulative God’s have interfered in unexpected ways. With a helping hand from fate, he must go to Melania and keep her safe.

Together they must navigate the wilderness and survive both the cold and trouble-making Gods.

EXCERPT:

Melania, you need to snap out of it.

She tensed as Daimone’s voice filled her head again. Reaching up, she touched the throbbing knot on her head and moaned.

It was official. She’d finally gone off the deep end. “This is so not happening.”

His deep chuckle resonated through her mind. “Ignoring me won’t make me go away.

She huddled tighter against her drawn up legs.

“Trust me. I know,” she mumbled.

He was a major contributing factor in her need for rest and relaxation. Her trip had been a last ditch effort before she threw in the proverbial towel and saw a therapist regarding her little problem.

However, now thanks to a stupid patch of ice, her brain was scrambled and her dream man on the loose. Somewhere on WebMD, there must be a section dedicated to her current condition. It would be a perfectly descriptive affliction that fit her every symptom to a “T”.

Ohshititis—hallucinations and hysteria brought on by extreme situations and chronic bad luck.

You need to get moving, love.

Why not just go with it? Considering her circumstances, she was, after all, due for a little hysteria.

“Well, excuse me if I want to take a moment to recover from a death-defying event here.”

The storm is coming closer, love. You have to get moving.

Lifting her head, she peered up into the thick veil of snow falling all around her. She blinked rapidly as a flurry of snowflakes drifted down on her face with, she was sure, a type of maniacal glee.

The clock is ticking, Princess.

“First of all, you are so not the boss of me. You’re not even real. You’re just a figment of my imagination.”

We really don’t have time to discuss this right now.

“Wait, I’m still unconscious, aren’t I?”

She glanced back at her car, partially expecting to see a specter of herself slumped over the wheel.

His long sigh drifted through her mind. She could almost feel his breath tickle the nape of her neck.

Why do you always have to be so stubborn?” he responded.

She scrunched her brow at his words, refusing to be badgered by a figment of her imagination. Considering the state of things, her choices were either unconsciousness, insanity, or worse yet, admitting that she was well and truly screwed.

She opted for unconsciousness.

It must be the only thing that explained the presence of Daimone’s voice in her head. For as long as she could remember, she’d dreamed of him. He’d appeared in her dreams even as a child. In the beginning, he was a child just as she’d been. But as the years passed, he’d aged along with her.

Sometimes, months would pass between his visits, but even when she dreamed of other people and things, she’d felt him watching her in the corner of her mind. He’d been her secret companion, her solace for years.

Her cheeks heated as she thought of how he’d also become other things to her. It began the night she’d returned from her family’s summer vacation at the beach. She’d only been fifteen at the time and missed frolicking in the sun with friends. That night, she’d dreamed of lying on the beach soaking in the sun.

Daimone had appeared and sat down next to her, nudging her playfully in the ribs. She’d opened her eyes, and for the first time, noticed the breadth of his shoulders, his strong jaw, and twinkling blue eyes.

A flash of heat had raced across her flesh as sunlight had kissed his golden skin. For the first time, she felt the urge to kiss a boy. Her body had yearned to touch and be touched.

Her lips quirked as she thought back on that dream. She’d acted on impulse then. She’d reached up and pulled him down to her, pursing her lips onto his. He’d yanked away looking surprised, but she still remembered the way she’d tingled at the touch of his lips on hers.

She rarely saw him in her dreams for several years after that. He would appear as a passerby or random face in a crowd, but never played a starring role. Not until her parents died several years after she completed college did he become a reoccurring feature in her dreams again.

As much as I love this little jaunt down memory lane, it’s time to make a decision.

His voice had lost its calm tone and held a definite edge of irritation.

I’ll make this easier for you. You’re not unconscious, you’re not crazy. So that leaves only one option.

“Don’t say it,” she said.

You’re fucked, love, and not in a good way.

She groaned.

Of course she was.

Author Interview

How did you choose your genre? What made you write this book? I love reading erotic paranormal romance—shifters-r-me;) I was naturally drawn to write what I read…the initial idea of the heroine for book one in the LIIA series happened by an event – my friend losing her husband and mentioning how many women were in attendance at his funeral. Hmmm. My heroine, Olivia, developed right then and there…fifty-five year old woman just loses her husband and finds out he’s a philanderer (obviously I juiced it up) – my friend lives on a large property where she allows all wildlife to roam freely…no matter what it is. So, I also used this little gem too 😉

Writers write what they know, and must observe the world. Are you a first born, middle or last child and how does this shape your view of the world? I am a first born, but rather than being the responsible one as I was all through childhood and well into my thirties, I became a dreamer. Leaning more to the spiritual side of things and shutting off the news – local and worldly because honestly I became sick of the panic it created in me and others. I’ve tapped into a fiction writer’s world and find there’s nothing ugly or panicky about itJ

Where is your favorite place to write? My three-season room…although I move around to a number of comfy chairs in my house, I love to go camp out at a café now and then just to alleviate the cabin-fever and enjoy a fresh-brewed latte 😉

How do you feel about killing your darlings, and what do you do with the remains? It’s really tough to be objective with my own writing—I can edit the tar out of someone else’s manuscript, but with mine *shakes head* it’s a struggle to let go. So, I came up with a dump sheet (I guess in essence it’s a dump site 😉 Yep, it isn’t quite so hard to dash a line or scene if it will grace a page somewhere…and that’s my dump sheet. Ask me how many times I’ve read it…uhmmm, never. But it gives me peace of mind knowing it’s there if I want toJ

You are introduced to your favorite author. Who is it, and what is that one burning question you must ask them? First off, I’d probably have to pick myself up off the floor. *giggles* My favorite author is Kate Douglas…and some of my friends have met her personally. I emailed her and she allowed me to interview her for a romance site where I blog;) My burning question is: ‘What was the turning point in your career—how did you know recognize your success?’

Inquiring minds want to know…tell readers something about you that no one knows. I used to fish in local bass tournaments with my husband or with my father. I grew up freshwater fishing…and still enjoy it when we can get out thereJ

You are stranded on a deserted island with only a back pack for company. What three items are in your survival pack? Only three items…hmmm, I guess a giant lighter or box of matches, knife—sharp one that can be used as a multipurpose tool, hunting implement, and weapon, and then some kind of pan I can use to boil water and also cook food. Good question…there’s so many things that went through my mind, but they’re all luxuries and wouldn’t really be of use to survive;)

If you could have one super power in your existence, what would it be? The ability to heal the world and everyone in it without anyone knowing or realizing who did it…it just happens 😉

Favorite snack? It’s ever changing…depends on if I’m on a health kick or not. My favorite treat is dark chocolate;) Does that count *smiles*

Indy 500 – Do you know how to get where you’re going or do you drive the speed limit? Well, I never drive the speed limit and I usually plan out my route so I hit every place I need to go driving in the least amount of traffic (even if it takes a few extra miles).

Thanks so much Danita – your questions were creative, had fun answering them, and your place is amazing. Thank you so much for allowing me this time and for sharing my series / story;)

Will Trevor come around in time to rescue Lindsey and save her from shifting into Smoke’s pack, and will she even want back with Trevor after spending so long apart?

Amazon; Muse It Hot Publishing Store

Also available at many other fine e-book stores.

Excerpt:

So far, Smoke didn’t share Lindsey with other males, but she was aware of the orgies inside the central building. She heard a few women talk of them. Some even liked them, being surrounded by hard-bodied men hung like rocket launchers. Those women went at it without the use of the stimulation drug Smoke used on everyone else.

She was used to the little needle pricks and welcomed them. It made acting the part with Smoke so much easier, believing in her heart Trevor made love to her, but guarding that fact from Smoke by holding Trevor’s name in the secret place, locked safely away.

Lindsey understood some of the sexual attraction. She had that once, but she couldn’t go there in her mind. Smoke searched her thoughts almost daily and always found if she’d tapped into any memory nuggets of people she loved. He possessed psychic abilities others didn’t. Already, the thoughts of Trevor that had emerged she’d need to bury before Smoke returned.

If an orgy ensued during their pack meeting, Smoke would be preoccupied for a good while. She reached her arm underneath the mattress, where a few weeks ago she saw Smoke slide his journal. Lindsey had fallen asleep with her back to the fireplace. A crack of thunder wakened her in time to witness Smoke closing a journal and placing it beneath the mattress they shared.

Lindsey touched its leather cover, wrapped her fingers around it, and hauled it out.

Welcome to Weekend Writing Warriors.  I am featuring 8 sentences of my new paranormal romance Love Entwined, A Cardiff Novel Book 2. Here are Roman and Amelie, warrior and witch, their first meeting in this lifetime.

Love Entwined

“…and I would like you to work on the designs.”

“Me?” She was close enough to hear him chuckle under his breath.

Maybe it was three months of pent up anger at being—for lack of a better word—manipulated in her home. Or, maybe it was three months of the best sex—real or imagined—she’d ever had in her life with a phantom who chose to introduce himself at this very inconvenient time when she was trying to quit her exhausting job. It was also just as likely the fact that her warm and generous dream lover was actually a pampered and conceited heir who probably had more woman than the time required to service them. Whatever the reason, she had reached her limit.

She faced Mr. Cardiff. Folding her arms, she acknowledged what had passed between them and accepted his dare. “It would be my pleasure.”

Her Wicked Angel by  Felicity Heaton

The King of Demons and the Devil’s right hand man, Asmodeus is a dark angel born of evil and created for destruction. When his master orders him to venture into the mortal world and retrieve a female for him, he seizes the chance to leave Hell for the first time, uncaring of what the Devil has planned for her… until he sets eyes on the most beautiful woman he has ever seen—a female who awakens new feelings within his black heart, unleashing passion so intense that it controls him and desire he cannot resist.

He will not let his wretched master have her. She will belong to him.

Liora is a witch with a bad reputation and an obsession with fighting demons. A mission gone wrong sees her sent to Paris to cool off, but when a dark and deadly warrior with a gaze of golden fire lands in her life, she ends up burning hotter than Hell for the wicked angel. Nothing will stand between her and the immense, forbidding male. Not her cousin. Not Asmodeus’s sworn enemy and twin, Apollyon. And certainly not the Devil.

Caught up in a tempest of danger and soul-searing passion, can they survive against the odds and seize their forever after?

Her Wicked Angel – Excerpt

Asmodeus’s head was tied in more knots than ever and every inch of him felt tense, and he couldn’t convince his body to relax, not while he was drowning under the tidal pull of his thoughts. He wanted to get them straight and figure everything out, and come to understand this world and Liora, but the more he spoke to her and the more he saw of this realm, the more on edge and overwhelmed he became.

He hadn’t meant to lose his temper with her, and he regretted dropping her from even a short height and shouting at her. Another first for him. He couldn’t remember ever regretting anything before. He couldn’t remember experiencing guilt before he had met Liora.

Her hand covered his, warm and slight, her light weight pressing it into the grass. She had fallen quiet and he wished that she hadn’t. He liked the sound of her voice and the sharp note it had at times, a tone that told him she wasn’t going to just back down and let him have his way.

He had felt powerless to leave her and had wanted to convince her to leave him, because he feared that the Devil would force him to obey his command to bring her to him. He had tried to draw a line between them, hoping to force her into seeing that he didn’t subscribe to her mortal concepts of right and wrong, and that there was no good in him as she would view it. Rather what she viewed as bad, he saw as good.

She had been afraid at one point, he felt sure of it, but had rallied and refused to leave him, instead telling him that she knew he could protect her and she was safest with him.

Asmodeus didn’t believe that, so he wasn’t sure how she could. He had done nothing to prove himself worthy of her belief and she barely knew him. She probably knew Apollyon well, and together with Serenity and perhaps their friends, that male would be better able to protect her from the Devil.

He stared up at the stars, trying to ignore the creeping fear at the back of his mind. He refused to feel that emotion. He had feared the Devil in the past, scores of centuries ago, when he had been young and weak, and unsure of himself. With every decade that had passed, every victory on the battlefield and captive that had cracked from his torture alone, he had grown stronger and more confident, becoming fitting of the title the Devil had given him.

King of Demons.

A title he had to live up to or risk losing.

The Devil would strip him of it if he discovered that he had already met the female and was refusing to bring her to him.

He had to return to his master and learn more about why he wanted her, but he didn’t think Liora would allow him to leave without a fight. She wanted him to stay.

Why?

His heart supplied that perhaps she desired to kiss him again.

He wished.

Asmodeus tried to focus on the stars and failed when his thoughts turned to Liora and when she had kissed him. He could still taste her. The kiss had made him feel strange, fuzzy and unfocused, and he wanted to do it again.

He wanted the petite female sitting beside him with her beautiful eyes on the stars and her hand covering his, even though she was full of light and purity.

For the first time in his life, he wished there was more good in him in the human sense of the word, not less. He wanted to be worthy of her and right now he wasn’t. A beautiful, noble, and caring female like Liora deserved a male of equal character.

She would never truly desire someone only capable of violence, cruelty, and darkness. Everything she viewed as bad.

His gaze slid to her against his will and traced the outline of her profile. Starlight bathed her skin in pale tones that his eyes could see. They were accustomed to the dark and marked another difference between them.

She was mortal.

He was immortal.

She glanced across at him and he averted his gaze to his wings. The wind played in his black feathers. It had felt good to fly with her in his arms, held close against his chest, and to feel her hands on his skin.

Asmodeus slipped his right hand from beneath hers, leaned to his left and brought his wing forwards, between them. She frowned and a flicker of hurt crossed her face. He hadn’t meant it as a barrier or an act of pushing her away.

He nimbly preened his ruffled feathers and she relaxed again, and went back to gazing at the stars. Asmodeus focused on tending to his wings. Some of the feathers were out of place from flying and he needed something other than Liora to concentrate on so he could free up his mind. Working on a task that was second nature to him often allowed him to clear his head and caused his thoughts to fall into better order. He hoped it was the case today.

Cleaning his weapons normally produced the same effect.

One of his swords did need cleaning, but he didn’t think that Liora would appreciate him tending to the blade. It would remind her of what he had done, and that the Devil wanted her, and it would spoil this quiet moment of calm.

“Do you not like the stars?” she whispered, her gaze returning to him.

Asmodeus paused at his work and looked over his wing to her. He did like the stars and he liked her too, and he thought she was infinitely more beautiful than they were. What would she say if he told her that?

He shoved that thought away and nodded. “I do, but my feathers are misaligned. They irritate me.”

“Can you put your wings away?” Her hazel eyes lowered to his wing and, before he could answer that he could if he desired it, she had reached over, laid her palm on the curve of his wing, and was running her hand down it.

Holy Hell, that felt good.

A shiver bolted through him, hot and fierce, reigniting his blood and making it burn for more. He wanted her to stroke his wing again, to caress it and tease him, driving him wild with need for her.

His fangs lengthened and he sensed the moment his irises brightened and began to verge on crimson. Her eyes widened and her fingers paused against his feathers.

She sounded breathless when she uttered, “You like me touching them?”

Asmodeus told himself not to nod and not to let on that her touching his wings had him hurtling towards the edge of bliss and had him rock hard in his loincloth.

He tried.

Failed.

He nodded and swallowed hard when she resumed her stroking, sending hot little shivers tripping over his flesh, stoking his hunger up degree after degree until he couldn’t take any more.

His red eyes narrowed on her lips.

He wanted to taste them again. He wanted to shove his fingers into her fall of soft chestnut hair, grasp the back of her head and yank it back so he could devour her mouth and master her.

He would do just that.

Asmodeus reached for her.

Author Interview

How did you choose your genre? What made you write this book? I’m less about genre than writing a good story. 🙂 I love paranormal/fantasy, but also love contemporary and historical, sometimes mainstream, speculative/futuristic. I love to experiment.

Cursed is a bit of a mashup – it has some historical elements, a little science, a smidgeon of suspense, with the very cool backdrop of Carnevale, a ten-day masquerade festival in Venice, Italy. A couple of magazine articles sparked the story idea and it took off from there.

Writers write what they know, and must observe the world. Are you a first born, middle or last child and how does this shape your view of the world? As the youngest of seven children, I’ve always had to scrabble to keep up, lol. But it’s taught me persistence, which is an essential trait for a writer. Growing up on a country road with no neighbors within walking distance made for a solitary childhood (my older brothers and sisters were all out doing other things!) so the writing instinct developed.

Where is your favorite place to write? Our house had a spare room that I claim as an office, though it also serves as a guest room, junk room, and hide-the-Christmas-presents room as needed.

How do you feel about killing your darlings, and what do you do with the remains? I don’t write mystery or thrillers, so I don’t often kill them, but I do chuck them under the bus quite a few times, lol. Conflict and tension help drive the storyline, and I love flawed characters. Tortured heroes like Bruno are an added bonus.

You are introduced to your favorite author. Who is it, and what is that one burning question you must ask them? There are so many authors I’d love to meet! It’s so hard for me to pick favorites, but if I had to choose only one, it would be T.C. Boyle. I think I’d just ask if I could hang around with him for awhile in hopes some of his genius would rub off on me, lol.

Inquiring minds want to know…tell readers something about you that no one knows. I’m afraid I’m much more interesting as a writer. Most of my free time’s spent at the keyboard. It doesn’t make for gossip column material, lol.

You are stranded on a deserted island with only a back pack for company. What three items are in your survival pack? A loaded iPod (solar-powered, I suppose), a computer (also solar powered with satellite Internet) and since my hubby probably wouldn’t fit in the backpack, I’d take my dog Lily. 🙂

If you could have one super power in your existence, what would it be? Only one? Hmm. Flying’s high up on the list, but I loved the mom on The Incredibles – her elastic powers came in pretty handy. 🙂

Favorite snack? Chocolate covered almonds. Yum.

Indy 500 – Do you know how to get where you’re going or do you drive the speed limit? I can see the finish line from where I start, but how I get there is often different than I think when I begin. There’s a famous quote, and I wish I could remember the author, to the effect that I can see enough of the road in my car’s headlights to take me the entire journey. (I’m paraphrasing but you get the idea!)

Thanks so much for having me as a guest, Danita! It’s been a real pleasure.

Description

Ten days of freedom. That’s all Fate had allotted me each year. In the streets of Venice, I could walk among them. Mingle. Belong.

During Carnevale, they had no idea who I was. What I was.

For ten days, it didn’t matter.

Until I met her.

Bruno diCesare lives alone by necessity, not choice. An experiment performed by Leonardo da Vinci, who believed having a dual DNA would grant a person immortality, used magic to render Bruno a chimera – the head of a lion, body of a dragon. The only time he can mingle with people is during Carnevale, ten glorious days of masked anonymity, frivolity and intimacy.

Melina Weaver learned fire dancing to enliven her dull existence. A scientist, her long hours at the lab leave no time for a social life. For ten days at Carnevale, she can pretend to be someone else. Someone sexy and daring, who lives on the edge.

Once she meets Bruno, her wish comes true, but everything goes terribly wrong. Beneath Bruno’s costume lurks an alpha male, but is he dangerous? Worse, can she return to an employer who sells her research to the military to make an army of efficient killers? Her only hope may lie with the man she’s just met and never seen.

Warning: This title is intended for readers over the age of 18 as it contains adult sexual situations and/or adult language, and may be considered offensive to some readers.

Excerpt

Light danced in his dark eyes. “I must admit, your fire dancing fascinated me. What made you choose such a dangerous skill to master?”

“The thrill of the challenge, I suppose.” It balanced the rest of her mundane life, to a degree. Mastering each new level gave her a sense of achievement, where work couldn’t.

Something flashed through his dark eyes. “Mistakes must be very painful.”

“I practiced a long time before I worked up the nerve to actually light the wands. I found the fire great incentive to focus, however.” God, her grin must be goofy, the way he stared. Such gorgeous eyes, such a deep brown they almost appeared black. He probably had rugged features, if his large hands provided any indication. Too bad he wore gloves, another barrier between them.

“Yes,” he said, “I imagine so.”

“What about you? What other magic do you know?” Oh please, can you get any more ridiculous? It sounded like a line from a bad chick flick.

The crinkle around his eyes was the only evidence of his smile, but enough to charm her.

“Lifetimes of studying the dark arts have provided me with many tricks.”

“Lifetimes?” she blurted.

He stiffened in her arms. “Pardon?”

She watched him carefully. “You said ‘lifetimes’. Plural.” And what the hell did he mean by ‘dark arts’?

Rigidity masked the grace of his movements. “I’m sure you’re mistaken.” He stared over her head as they whirled to the song’s rhythm.

Mistaken my ass. How very strange. More strange that the question upset him. He’d clammed up, and his muscles were so tense, she expected him to bolt. Better to drop it. For now. “Must have been a slip of the tongue.”

“Yes.” Relief sounded in his tone, though guarded.

This man had something to hide. How intriguing.
