The Playwright and the Duke (The Lost Slipper Society, book 3)
By Juli D. Revezzo
Genre: Sweet historical romance (Victorian romance)
Publisher: Raven Queen Publications
Book Blurb:
Banished from London by her father to her aunt’s house in Colchester, over a scandal caused by her sister that has all London talking, Miss Nora Murphy bides her time by trying to convince the local theatre manager to allow her to stage a play to benefit the Lost Slipper Society.
Darwin, a local fellow who teaches drums to orphans, wishes to use the same theatre for his own event. When Nora’s aunt suggests they might convince the manager of Nora’s case by pretending to court, Darwin agrees, but has reservations.
He has a secret he doesn’t wish revealed–especially not to Nora’s circle in London. For will Nora still love him, and the people of Colchester regard him the same if they find out their mild-mannered, charitable drum teacher is actually a duke-in-disguise?
Juli D. Revezzo Interview
1. Can you give us a sneak peek into the mind of your main character?
Miss Nora Murphy is part of a budding charity group called the Lost Slipper Society so when she and her sister are banished to their aunt’s home in Colchester, even though she’s upset about leaving London, she wishes she could help. But her mind thinks in terms of dramas, so she cooks up a play to (she hopes) stage for the benefit of her charity. She never expects to, but is relieved to find a kindred spirit, of sorts, in a mild-mannered drum teacher for a local orphanage, someone she can plot and commiserate with. And (maybe, Idk, you’ll have to read The Playwright and the Duke) fall in love with?😊
2. As authors, we get to live out our fantasies. What fantasy are you bringing to life in this new release?
To be a playwright of a one-woman play. It might be neat to be an actress, but for stage fright. I’ve never written a play so it was fun doing that.
3. As a writer of sweet historical romances set in the Victorian era you must spend quite a bit of time in a world full of intricate social intrigue. If you were living in your character’s world in the Victorian era, would you be a villain, a saint or a little of both?
Probably a saint. Though conflict is fun in theory, the reality of it is more nerve-wracking. I mean, don’t we get enough of that in real life?
4. What is the one thing you haven’t yet explored with your writing that you are excited to share?
In The Lost Slipper Society, I’ve thought about adding a Sleeping Beauty-themed story to it, but I can’t for the life of me think of how to do it. Maybe one day!
