Character Interview

Malcolm Patterson has an interesting
story to tell.

What is your Malcolm
like?

Malcolm is 6’ 2” tall, chocolate skin, warm brown eyes and full lips framed by
a goatee. He’s the senior project manager at H20 Environmental, an
environmental consulting firm in Columbia, SC. In his spare time he plays
basketball with his brother Jared and best friend Devin.

What does Malcolm
do best? What is the perfect location for this action?
Malcolm is
assertive, confident, personable and used to going after what he wants. These
skills have lead to contracts for a wide array of  projects for the firm and his tenacity is the
reason his projects often exceed expectations. He usually applies these same
skills when going after a woman, but had to curb these natural instincts when
it came to his sexy co-worker, Kenyatta Copeland—atleast until she got engaged
to another man.

What drives Malcolm to do the things he does? He works for an environmental firm because he has a deep appreciation for the environment that came from spending time hunting and fishing with his dad. He finally went after Kenyatta when he realized she was about to marry a man he didn’t think would appreciate her. He’s hidden his feelings for her for years and thought he was okay with that, but the thought of her marrying another man shook him more than he ever imagined.

You are
introduced to Malcolm. Is he happy to meet you?
Yes, as a
consultant he meets new people regularly. He is also a natural charmer. When it
comes to women, he treats them all with his undivided attention—maintaining eye
contact and engaging in pleasant conversation.

What is Malcolm’s
favorite guilty pleasure?
Eating junk food. Malcolm works out regularly and
his brother is a health and fitness expert, but he likes to sneak cakes and
candy into his diet.

How would Malcolm
describe himself?

Confident, not cocky.

What is Malcolm’s
weakness?

His co-worker, Kenyatta Copeland, ever since she walked into his office three
years ago. He’s used to going after women he’s attracted to, but refuses to
engage Kenyatta in a scandalous office affair. But every time she’s near she
drives him to distraction. Not just because she’s beautiful, but also because
she works just as hard as him and cares for the environment.

Where does Malcoln
go to regroup/unwind?

He hits the basketball court with his brother and best friend.

What does Malcolm
live for?

It used to be his job—until he made a play for Kenyatta’s heart.

What will Malcolm
kill for?

Anyone who hurts or threatens Kenyatta or his family.

A
Few Questions for Malcolm

Give up three of
your deepest, darkest secrets.
Really? You expect me to tell the world
my darkest secrets? Let’s just say Kenyatta is the only woman with the
privilege of learning those.

If you could
have one super power in your existence, what would it be?
That’s more
like it. I’d have the strength of Superman.

A biography has
been written about you. What do you think the title would be in six words or
less?

Going for the goal and winning.

If money were
not an object, where would you most like to live?
I’m a country
boy, so I’d stay in South Carolina or Georgia. I would have a summer home near the
Bay of Quinte in Ontario
. My brother
and I took a fishing trip there a few years ago and had a blast.

I can never back away
from a challenge
because it’s
not in my nature
.

The next time I don’t follow
my gut instinct
I will remember
how it almost cost me the woman I love
.

Why do I always tell
Kenyatta that I love her
? Because, I almost let her slip away.

My favorite
flavor is

chocolate sundae because Kenyatta
once licked it off my finger
.

I love Kenyatta
Copeland
because I couldn’t
imagine spending my life with anyone else
.

How much innuendo
can you take? Why? Not much. I don’t
have time to play games. I believe in being upfront.

Name one thing
you must do before you die, and why.
Make partner at H20 Environmental. Now
that my personal life is in order I can focus on my professional goals with a
supportive woman by my side.

Synopsis

After
several bad relationships, Kenyatta Copeland decides to control her love life
with the same discernment she uses in her professional life.

Knowing
firsthand the heartbreak that comes when desire and emotion rule a
relationship, Kenyatta assumes marrying Brad Johnson will lead to a stable
life. But as much as she believes she can plan her future, it’s hard to ignore
the way her boss, Malcolm Patterson, ignites her passions with just one look.
After Malcolm learns of her engagement, he makes a play for her heart and
reminds her that passion between a man and a woman has its perks … but also its
costs. When Brad suspects there’s more than work between Kenyatta and Malcolm,
he works harder to keep Kenyatta by his side. Torn between her promise to marry
Brad and her irrepressible longing for Malcolm, Kenyatta must decide if she can
live her life in a passionless marriage of convenience or once again trust her
heart. Yet Brad isn’t as perfect as he seems, and by the time Kenyatta realizes
this it may be too late.
