Author Interview: Alexa Randolph

1. How did you choose your genre? What made you write this book?

I have always loved romance novels and movies. I knew if I ever wrote of my own it would be Romance because that’s what I knew well and loved. I was a junior in college and home for break. One night while I was watching shows I started getting these characters and ideas in my head. I started creating an outline of how I wanted the story and the characters. It took off from there.

2. Writers write what they know, and must observe the world. Are you a first born, middle or last child and how does this shape your view of the world?

I grew up an only child having friends with a lot of siblings. I always wanted that and I would observe when I was around them. A lot of my stories have big families because I always thought it would be so fun. One thing I am  thankful for is the closeness I have with both my parents. I think it would be slightly different had I had siblings.

3. Where is your favorite place to write?
I typically write at the kitchen table, but many times I have gone to a coffee shop.

4. How do you feel about killing your darlings, and what do you do with the remains?
I never thought I would kill a main character like I did in With Love, Ella. It fit the story and made it feel bigger and more toward reality than a novel. It also opened up ideas to a second book.

5. You are introduced to your favorite author. Who is it, and what is that one burning question you must ask them?

I have many authors I like, but one of my favorites now is Jillian Dodd. I would ask her how she goes marketing herself and her books as well as how she can write many series that all continue on for 5 plus books.

6. Inquiring minds want to know…tell readers something about you that no one knows.

I was in a bad car accident a few years ago and because of hitting my head I ended up with Central Pain Syndrome. I am doing what I can to help those suffering with invisible illnesses like me.

7. You are stranded on a deserted island with only a backpack for company. What three items are in your survival pack?
My kindle, a notebook and my phone

8. If you could have one superpower in your existence, what would it be?

I would do teleportation. I hate being in cars for long periods of time and planes as well. I would love to think about where I want to go and just be there.

9. Favorite snack?
Popcorn

10. Indy 500 – Do you know how to get where you’re going or do you drive the speed limit?
I am definitely not someone who knows directions. I think depending on the situation it could be fun just go and if you get lost it could end up being a great story.

Ella noticed that Daniel was starting to get fidgety and had a nervous energy. She held his hand and smiled at him. He kissed her hand and held them tight. “Ella, you have always been my best friend and for the past six years, I have been lucky enough to call you the love of my life. We may fight at times, but I know that I could never be without you by my side. Words could never describe how much you mean to me. You are the reason I wake up in the morning and the reason I never want to go to sleep at night. When I think about my future, the only thing that I know for sure is how much I need you in it. You are my everything.” He grabbed a box out of his pocket and got down on one knee. He looked her right in the eyes and said, “Will you do the honor of making me the happiest guy in the world and be my wife?” Ella was shocked. She shouldn’t have been surprised, as this had been a long time coming. But still, she didn’t think it would happen now when her life had just fallen apart. Tears formed in Ella’s eyes.  “I…uh…I need a minute.” Ella said before slipping her heels off and taking off down the beach.

Alexa Randolph is the author of Daniel, Ever After, which follows With Love, Ella.  “It was so fun to be able to watch my characters grow from my first novel to this one,” Alexa says of her contemporary romance novel.  “My heart hurt when theirs did, and I felt like I was a part of their world.”  You can always find her typing away at the keyboard, crafting romantic short stories or dreaming up characters and plots.
