Character Interview: Dr. Miranda Perry talks the science of love & Russ

We want to know all about you. I am a PhD in astrophysics and very smart, if I may so and not sound like I’m blowing my own horn. I’m exceptionally dedicated to my work. I don’t date much. No time.

What do you do best? What is the perfect location for this action? I am a critical thinker and am excellent at my job of looking for previously unidentified planets. I don’t have much experience with men and, when I met Russ, I was blown over by my feelings. I work at Palomar Observatory in California and love it there. Russ lives in Boston and therein lies the rub, as they say.

What drives you to do the things you do? I am driven by my love of science and ambition.

You are introduced to a fan.  Are you happy to meet them? Russ has an immediate reaction to me and it is love at first sight for him.

What is your favorite guilty pleasure? Oooh, You’re going to make me admit something naughty, aren’t you? Well, I might as well.  I looove chocolate and sneak it every chance I get. My lower desk drawer looks like a candy shop. I don’t think anyone has noticed. Yeah, you think they have? Nah.

How would you describe Russ? He knows he handsome, the big lug, but he doesn’t use it, ya know? He’s just always himself and doesn’t make like he’s the hottest thing since the Brazilian Rain Forest. But he is HOT! Just don’t tell him I told you that.

Now that you’ve peaked our interest in hunky Russ, won’t you tell us about his weakness? Me! *Giggle*  And he loves a good debate.

Where does Russ go to regroup/unwind? He spends a lot of time with his brother and he has a lot of friends—mostly in the scientific community. I think I’ll fit right in.

What does Russ live for? Again, you mean other than me? He has a passion for telling people how exciting physics is. That’s why he loves to do these talks and seminars, which brought him to Palomar.

What will Russ kill for? Again, you silly person—me! Other than that, he loves a good steak. He would fly to another state for a good steak.

Grilling Dr. Miranda Perry

Give up three of your deepest, darkest secrets. I get lonely. I don’t tell anyone because I hate pity, but sometimes I just wish I had someone in my life. Second, I got a perfect score on the SAT. People would hate me if I told them that. Third, the chocolate thing, I suppose.

If you could have one super power in your existence, what would it be? X-ray vision. I think it’d be so incredible to be able to see inside things.

A biography has been written about you. What do you think the title would be in six words or less? Science isn’t Everything.

If money were not an object, where would you most like to live? Costa Rica—it’s gorgeous there and I love the monkeys and colored birds.

Fill in the blank

I can never  have a cat  because  I’m allergic to them. *Sniff*.

The next time I  diet  I will  stick to it.

Why do I always  overanalyze everything?

My favorite flavor is  duh. chocolate  because  I would die without it.

I love  the heavens  because  I  enjoy dreaming about them.

How much  separation from Russ  can you take? Why? My world is not the same when he’s not in it.

Name one thing you must do before you die, and why.  Live the whole rest of my life with my soul mate.

Married-to-the-Job-full Blurb

Dr. Miranda Perry is a workaholic scientist whose job is everything to her. When sexy, smart, and suave Dr. Russell Rogers visits to give a seminar, though, he blows her world apart.

It’s love at first sight for Russ, and he uses every trick in his arsenal to convince Miranda to go out with him. In the short time they have together, sparks fly and the sexual tension burns up the sheets.

After Russ returns to his job in Boston, the two engage in hectic, emotional- and sex-filled rendezvous, but their liaisons don’t cut it for either of them and a choice must be made. With each committed to prestigious positions on opposite sides of the country, will they let the fire burn out because each is married to the job?

Excerpt

They were both ready to come together when Miranda panicked. “Wait, Russ. I’m not sure we should be doing this. I’m not into one-night stands. I don’t do that sort of thing.”

“I don’t either.” Along with the heat and passion, his face showed determination.

“You’re leaving tomorrow. How can it be anything other than a one-night stand?”

“I may be leaving, but I’m not getting on that plane until I’ve made utter and complete love to you. And, whether I leave tomorrow or not, we’re not severing this relationship. Not if I have anything to say about it.”

She lay for a moment, staring up at him, stunned. He could tell no one had ever said anything like that to her. He didn’t want to let her go. Did that mean he wanted something permanent? Geez. He was afraid to go there yet, but just as much, he was afraid not to.

His heart fluttered and hot zings flew through his body. He watched Miranda simmer and burn, feelings settling at her center, where warmth and moistness and firing nerve endings invited him to explore.

Their gazes met and hers blazed with intense fire, like a conflagration started by two suns colliding.

Bio

Cynthia is a New York native, currently living in Western New York. She and her hubby moved from the capital area in Albany to be near their grandchildren, one, five, and six. They are adorable, much more adorable than other grandchildren. She is retired, except for her writing, but she still writes prolifically. She is one of those weird people who has always been a writer, long before she thought of it as a job. When not writing, she is reading, traveling (especially south in winter), and swimming in her pool with her grandbabies.

  1. I loved the snippet, especially the “…like a conflagration started by two suns colliding.” How appropriate for an astrophysicist and her man!
