Blurb

An unusual young woman and fledgling
journalist, Luna has various restrictive oddities, all of which prevent any
kind of physical intimacy. Abusive parents take pleasure in Luna’s misery and
isolation, yet Luna strives to make them proud, to finally earn their elusive
love – something she craves almost as much as the painless touch of a lover.

When she learns of a tragic story
involving the kidnap of baby Esta, she jumps at the chance to investigate,
dragging her Shadows along for the ride within the murky depths of her mind.

Meanwhile, a dark stranger visits Luna’s
dreams and stalks her reality. In lieu of the real thing, their intimate
moments excite rather than terrify. Nestled within his presence, she begins to
sense an urgent message of danger – a message she struggles to interpret, until
they finally meet….

Her investigations lead Luna to a
vibrant seaside town, hiding copycat aliens and an underworld of Supernaturals.
Here, she comes face-to-face with her own, terrifying identity. Confronted with
life-changing decisions and the harshest of truths, Luna questions her sanity,
searching for logic, feeling deceived by both.

Is Luna trapped in a newfound
supernatural world, or within her own delusions? And will anyone care enough to
save her?

Excerpt

In the vision, the loitering stranger sat undaunted, unguarded, unhindered; his beefy fingers threaded, his hands rested on the round table between us, outside a café. It appeared to be our favourite café; The Pantry. We frequented there often, to people-watch, drink copious amounts of coffee, and enjoy the beauty of the night. It rained softly, and because we often walked on such nights, the vision became all too real.

He appeared unearthly, anomalous even, yet the familiarity of him unnerved me most. I had been this close to him before—closer perhaps. But when, how?

The sounds and movements of those around us slowed down. I felt submerged beneath deep water, though I could still breath. His face hidden beneath a heavy hood, he remained elusive, yet I began to feel peaceful, even safe. Until the atmosphere changed and I prickled all over, super-charged inside.

Long white fingers of light passed from within him to pierce my gasping breast, and intrigued mind. Soon, the normal clatter and banter of the evening crowd silenced, as if the noise were sucked out with a liposuction rod. Their chatter stolen, the people around us froze, like bronzes. Rain clouds dipped shoulder level, misting up the atmosphere, cooling our dampened bodies.

He held my gloved hand in his and I enjoyed the intimacy, the delicate kisses of the evening rain, and the peace that came with being submerged within the clouds. I tried to read his emotions, see his aura, neither of which were possible. The silence of him became disconcerting and arousing. I searched through shadows for facial features, but found nothing to carry into reality. No sly, telltale identifiers. He’d blocked them all somehow, with garments, shade, light.

Then he mumbled, passing on information cautiously, but I couldn’t access the details as I might have in the actual dream. The memory of his deep, indulgent voice made little sense to me once awake, it’s tribal harmonies built waves of desire, not information.

Despite his control over our environment, and me, I remained calm, believing he posed no threat. I needed to understand him, though all I could glean was I must travel, investigate, even fight for my life, and find something of immense importance.

But what?

Like a phoney psychic reading, it gave me vague ideas and no specifics – little of any worth to work with.

In November of 2010, Shah found herself
in Dubai, having moved from the UK for her husband’s new job. With no job or
friends of her own, she had a lot of time on her hands and decided to take the
advice of online friends she’d met through webook.com, and build her own blog.
WordsinSync was born and was the catalyst in meeting fellow authors and
bookworms galore. She moved on from writing poetry (two published) and short
stories (one published) onto using her imagination to write novels. She has
learned a lot on her adventure into stories and storytelling, mostly from the
awesome advice of her online peer-group.

Her great loves are her patient husband
and their German Shepherd, Bobby. Her passions are writing, reading, blogging,
movies, photography, music, theatre, travel, and fine dining. Her
qualifications include BSc (Hons) psychology, counselling, hypnotherapy and
mentoring.

Genres of choice include anything dark
with fangs and/or that will make her squirm, or jump, or scream out an
expletive.  She is an avid Kindle abuser
and adores the indie writing community, and being part of the e-publishing
revolution and supports all authors on her bookish/author blog – Shah Wharton’s
WordsinSync.
