GENRE: Romantic Suspense/Thriller

BLURB:

A maniac developing a fantastical drug wants one more thing to finalize the project—a test subject who fits all the parameters. But that test subject is as elusive as her namesake.

Ex-SAS operative Mitch Edwards has been on the run since the moment he was framed for treason by someone in the British government. But he’s never forgotten the flamboyant and seductive CIA operative with the tongue of a thousand languages. In a bar in Cancun, Mexico, Mitch comes face to face with her once more, and with her comes the full force of her enemies.

Reinstated Hera Force linguist and assassin, Nadia Roth, code named Phoenix, has no memory of Mitch Edwards, or of their affair before her team’s disastrous mission. Her traumatic brain injury is tricky that way. But something about this man sets her on fire and tickles the back of her mind. Her Hera teammates remember him, so why can’t she?

Mitch partners up with Hera, with the sole intent of locating those hell-bent on killing him and all who are associated with him. Yet more is at stake than their lives. A traitor hides among their ranks, one who has been revealing all their secrets to an enemy determined to procure this special drug and Nadia for his scheme.

Hera goes into operation mode, doing what they were created to do, but someone is watching, and the team finds themselves trapped behind enemy lines with no way out.

Will Nadia ever remember the man she once loved, or will they perish with the secret between them?

Excerpt:

Mitch took the flute from her hand and set it on the table. “Excuse us,” he said and escorted her away.

Nadia tripped on the hem of her dress trying to adjust to his erratic movements. When they were out of earshot, she leaned toward him. “What are you doing?”

“Just follow,” he whispered, leading her right onto the emptying dancefloor.

The orchestra struck up another piece as Mitch twirled her around to face him and took up her arms like a professional ballroom dancer. Nadia ground her teeth as he began the waltz.

“I saw someone who would know me on sight,” he said as they glided around the floor.

“Then excuse yourself. You didn’t have to drag me away from him.”

The tempo increased, as did their steps.

“Sorry, but my orders were clear. You were not to be left alone.”

“Piss on your orders, Sergeant. I don’t need you running interference.”

He frowned a moment, then his mouth cocked up and he changed their stance, pulling her closer. “Sorry, love, but that’s not how this works.”

Round and round they went, moving with grace and chewing up the whole floor. Nadia met his lead step for step as she would in a fencing match. He wanted to try to one-up her, she’d push back. As the music swelled to a fevered pitch, his hold on her tightened. The heat of him overwhelmed her, seeping into the sexual parts of her that had long lain dormant, reacting to him as if she had known him all along.

The music reached a stop and they halted mid-stride. Once more, the steady waltz resumed, and they eased around the dancefloor until the last piano key was struck. As the strain faded, Nadia, chest rising and falling, stared at Mitch.

Loud applause erupted, startling her out of his arms. She pasted on a smile and turned to the crowd gathered around the floor. After performing a flawless curtsy, she gestured to her unexpected partner, who gave a proper bow. He grasped her hand and escorted her off the floor and out of the ballroom.

Making sure no one was trailing them, Nadia came to a halt in the lobby and jerked her hand free. “For not wanting to be spotted, you sure gave them an eyeful in there.”

“The individual went out on the terrace.”

“Like I said, you could have left on your own.”

“Six o’clock,” he muttered.

Nadia straightened and fanned herself.

AUTHOR Bio and Links:

Winter Austin perpetually answers the question: “were you born in the winter?” with a

flat “nope,” but believe her, there is a story behind her name.

A lifelong Mid-West gal with strong ties to the agriculture world, Winter grew up

Winter translated that into writing deadly romantic suspense, mysteries, and thrillers.

When she’s not slaving away at the computer, you can find Winter supporting her

daughter in cattle shows, seeing her three sons off into the wide-wide world, loving

on her fur babies, prodding her teacher husband, and nagging at her flock of hens to

stay in the coop or the dogs will get them.

She is the author of ten novels, with more on the way.
