Snow! A beautiful, fleeting, favorite thing. It will turn into rain –  the famous NYC slush.

Inside – more favorite things. Tinsel glints on the tree as the lights wink. The scent of pine needles mingle with the aroma of pie in the oven. Thunder coming from the living room where the football game is streaming. Don’t ask me who’s playing. I just find the cheers with equal parts outrage amusing – even as they drown out one of my favorite Christmas movies of all time: The Sound of Music.

We lost a favorite this year; our husky Khan passed away at 14 and a half years old. I miss him talking back to me. If I could bury my face in his fur just one more time. He stayed as long as he could and for that we are forever grateful.

He sent Lila to watch over us. Lila is a feisty Gerberian Shepksy, who thinks she is a lapdog. I must confess she is. She is irresistible. She’s enjoying 38 degrees and playing with her cousins in the backyard.

My favorite things: home, family, good food – and surprise visits from old friends! Memories to last a lifetime.

Wherever you are, I hope you are surrounded by your favorite, sights and sounds – and all the sensory comforts you can handle this holiday season.
