Author Interview: Elli Morgan

1. How did you choose your genre? What made you write this book?

Ever since I read a story called A vampire’s prisoner on a website called quizilla as a teenager, I’ve been obsessed with vampires. Back then, I also made up my own vampire stories, and they’re the basis for my books. Thus, choosing the paranormal romance genre was a no brainer to me.

2. Writers write what they know, and must observe the world. Are you a first born, middle or last child and how does this shape your view of the world?

I’m a spoiled only child, so I was used to being the center of attention for my mother. Although this sounds like a good thing, it can be quite exhausting. I also missed having someone to share my experiences with as a child. So, I guess I’m a bit more appreciative of having people close to me who can relate to my experiences now.

3. Where is your favorite place to write?

Since I’m only a part time author, I often write late at night. So, I usually write in the comfort of my home, lying on my couch with a huge cup of tea in front of me.

4. How do you feel about killing your darlings, and what do you do with the remains?

I have never killed an important main character, only some side characters that weren’t dear to me. Although, if I think about it for a while, that’s not completely true. Some of my main characters had to be killed in order to become vampires. But then there were no remains, as they weren’t truly dead.

5. You are introduced to your favorite author. Who is it, and what is that one burning question you must ask them?

I’ve got several favorite authors, but if I get to ask a question, I’d choose the one from A vampire’s prisoner. However, I only know her quizilla name RebelGoddess13, and I believe her first name might be Kali.

I loved the story she published on that website. As far as I know, she had the dream of publishing her story as a book, but gave up on it when parts of the story turned up online.

I’d like to ask or rather encourage her to give publishing her book one more chance.

6. Inquiring minds want to know…tell readers something about you that no one knows.

Back in ninth/tenth grade, I was pretty good in English and always had the best marks. But I remember one grammar exam in tenth grade where I made lots of stupid mistakes.

On the day we were supposed to get our results, our teacher told us that someone broke into his car and stole his bag with our tests. So, we had to write the exam again. This time, I got an A, and I was extremely grateful to whoever stole our teacher’s bag.

7. You are stranded on a deserted island with only a back pack for company. What three items are in your survival pack?

If possible, I’d like to pack my boyfriend Fabian. I’m sure we’d figure out together how to survive. Apart from that, a lighter and a Swiss Army knife might be useful.

8. If you could have one super power in your existence, what would it be?

Teleportation. It’d be so cool to just travel to any part of the world within seconds. My favorite holiday destination is Victoria in British Columbia. Since I’m from Germany, I need to fly for over 14 hours to get there. If I could teleport, I’d travel there more often.

Teleportation is also the power many of the vampires in my books possess. It’s just more fun to change locations quickly.

9. Favorite snack?

I enjoy food too much, so it’s tough to pick just one. But definitely something with chocolate or strawberries.

10. Indy 500 – Do you know how to get where you’re going or do you drive the speed limit?

Does the question imply that whoever drives the speed limit doesn’t know how to get where he’s going?

I don’t always feel like I know where I am going. Many of my decisions in the past year were rash, but I still like where I ended up. So, I guess I also didn’t always adhere to the speed limit. But apart from that, I usually stick to the rules and think everything through.

Excerpt:

“Okay then.” She swallowed and backed away. “Come at me and try to land a hit.”

He drew his sword. “Just one?”

“One will be hard enough, trust me.” She disappeared, only to reappear on the opposite side of the hall with a grin. “I’ll give you ten minutes before I go on the offensive.”

“All right.” He stormed at her.

Every time he approached, she glided out of reach. Whenever he thought he’d cornered her, she vanished. How did she move so incredibly fast? After a while, he bent over, panting.

“If you can’t get close, you’ll never touch me.”

“Well, you’re just running away. Looks like you’re afraid to face me,” he taunted her.

She laughed. “I’m not, and I’ll happily prove it to you in—” She glanced at the clock on the gym wall. “—three…two…one…now. Your time is up.”

He swallowed and tightened the grip on his sword. “Well then, turn your words into actions because I’m not running either.”

“As you wish.” She flew at him. With the force of her speed, she pushed him back against the wall. Faster than he could react, she seized his arms with hers and pressed her delicate body against his to keep him from fighting back.

Her soft breasts rubbed against his chest as he struggled against her, and the scent of chocolate and coconut assaulted his senses. She tempted him in more ways than one, and his hands ached to break free and explore her body. A flush of warmth spread through him as he imagined turning their training session into a make-out one. Since this was neither the time nor the place for such thoughts, he shook his head to clear it.

When his jeans tightened, he knew he’d lost the battle—against his arousal.

    1. I’ve never really celebrated it as such… after all, there is always more to do. Once I finish writing the first draft, I need to edit. Once I’m done self editing, I need to find a publisher and edit it over again with their help. And once that is done, I need to do some marketing, which is an endless task
But I’m always very proud when I finish one of these milestones and might eat something special or just go for a drink with a friend or something.

    2. I’ve never celebrated it as such since there is always more to do. After the first draft there is a lot of self editing, then finding a publisher and editing it once again. And then there is the endless task of marketing your book
But after every milestone, I’m feeling very proud of myself and might eat something special or go for a drink with a friend.

I love to hear from you!
