Ever feel like you don’t know a thing?
I’m a newbie in the book business with two published novels and often wonder about the next step. Marketing, promotion, book selling; an author could stay up at night ‘strategizing’ all of these things. How much is too much? What’s too little? I have my own approach (that I sort of just made up along the way) but we would all love to get it just right, wouldn’t we?
And what about my brand? Now, I always knew what my brand was, at least I knew what I wanted to sell. But was I selling it? I started looking at my social media and ended up re-designing my blog to reflect my product: erotically-charged dark fairy tales.
Taking a look around at my new digs I say, there is more. I know there are things I’m missing and I need help. Toward that end, I joined Romance Writers of America. I’d always heard about RWA and what a supportive, knowledgeable group they are and knew at some point I would join. When I was ready to take my career to the next level, I did just that.
Since joining Florida Romance Writers I’ve been immersed in informative discussions on this crazy book business. I’m sponging up knowledge from veterans and newbies alike and realizing we all have something to share.
I went to my very first Super Saturday this past weekend and was hooked. Talk about answers to my questions…the panel was amazing: Sophia Knightly, Mona Risk, agent Melissa Jeglinski of The Knight Agency, Barnes & Noble Business Development Manager Susan Boyd, Harlequinn Vice President Dianne Moggy and look, here I am with FRW founder Heather Graham!
Discussions on the changing face of publishing, workshops on marketing and book selling by Linda Conrad and Carol Stephenson, speed dating and pitches. It was a Super Saturday. Oh, I have many more questions now! I’ll just have to keep going back for more, onward and upward.
My stash. 🙂
