Author Interview

Hello Danita, I am thrilled to be here with you today, so thank you very much for inviting me to your blog to do a character interview! Wolfaert Dircksen Van Ness, the tall, handsome, powerfully built captain of the Witte Wieven, as well as the hero of our story, has agreed to answer some questions posed by some of my readers. So, here we go:

Now that we know about the danger and complexity of some of your missions in your adopted dimension, one of our readers want to know if you considered Aliyana’s quest a challenge or more of a walk in the park? And, did you enjoy it?

I don’t think of any undertaking as a “walk in the park.” Unknown dangers are always considered regardless of how easy or difficult a mission might seem and believe me, unexpected dangers do crop up from time to time. My entire crew and I did enjoy working with Aliyana. I think I enjoyed our mission far more than the others because it gave me time to win the heart of my lady. As you know, I had been looking for her for a very long time.

Speaking of that crew, we learn from Van Locken’s Witch, the prequel to Shadow of the Witte Wieven, that you inherited your crew from your former captain. Did you find it difficult to take the helm in regards to command, and did you ever have to boot anyone off of your ship?

No, it wasn’t at all difficult. As a crew under Rand Van Locken, we learned to work very well together. That didn’t end just because Rand chose to take a different path. Unfortunately, the first time we passed through the Bermuda Triangle portal, we lost some very valuable men. Finding replacements in the dimension in which we found ourselves wasn’t easy. Nonetheless, I still had enough of a crew to be choosy and found only the best. The crewmen I have today are every bit as skillful as their predecessors.

NBtM_ShadowOfTheWitteWieven_CoverBannerWe learn in Van Locken’s Witch that from the evidence surrounding you, you came to accept magic as a reality. Have you ever found other forms of what one might consider the supernatural in either your dimension or in the kátholoses you visited in your travels?

Yes, I did indeed, and I believe those will be discussed in a future book.

One of our male readers is interested in knowing about the technology you encountered in the parallel dimension in which you found yourself—how did it compare to your own at the time of your crossing and did you find it difficult to take in?

In many ways, the people of my realm were far superior to the world I left behind—in others, not so much. As far as those things superior, we were amazed, delighted, as well as quite willing and able to learn everything we could possibly learn. As I once told Aliyana, the technologies from her world to mine are simply different.

One final question. We know you were drawn to Aliyana’s beauty the moment you rescued her from the plane, but what did you think of her after she awoke and revealed her personality?

She reeled me in hook, line, and sinker…especially when she lost her temper and gave me ‘what for’ in Spanish. I found and still find that aspect of her personality very delightful. I must confess that every now and again I’ll deliberately say or do something that will provoke a heated Spanish response.

Shadow of the Witte Wieven

Blurb:

Despite a contract on her head, lone Drug Enforcement Agent, Aliyana Montijo must ferret out a mole and stop the assassination of top DEA officials, as so ordered by the Colombian drug lord she seeks to take down. The task is a daunting one, for there is no one she can trust. No one that is, until she encounters a most unlikely ally.

Former seventeenth century captain of the Dutch West Indies Company, Wolfaert Dircksen Van Ness, now from a parallel dimension, encounters the beautiful agent during an unearthly storm in the Bermuda triangle. Drawn to the Spanish beauty he rescues, he pledges his assistance, despite her reluctance to accept either his help or his heart.

Can Wolf bridge both space and time to claim the woman he loves?

Excerpt:

The idea one could dream and take part inside another dream never once occurred to Aliyana. Nor, had it ever happened to her before. Yet, she couldn’t find any other explanation for this bizarre experience. She found herself in a strange bed, gazing at a very handsome, broad-shouldered, well-muscled man. The tall, handsome man in question had light brown, shoulder length hair, which he combed back away from his face. His short, well-trimmed beard and mustache seemed darker than his hair or at least it did in this light. He had incredible sky blue eyes, infectious laughter, and a dimpled smile that would melt the iciest heart.

The only trouble with this picture? The form-fitting black doublet he wore looked like something straight out of ‘The Three Musketeers,’ minus the ridiculous broad-brimmed, large feathered hat. And—she wouldn’t be surprised to find him onboard the ship she encountered just before her plane collided with that massive rock. If any of that really happened.

On top of all that, he just told her to call him ‘Wolf’ using a very charming Germanic accent, probably Dutch, gauging from his surname. Okay, Wolf, from which part of my scrambled brain did I conjure a man like you? She closed her eyes once again. Perhaps in so doing she could escape this whacky dream altogether and wake up somewhere else. Some place a little more normal.

 Cover_VanLockensWitchExcerpt:

“Corners of truth? What are you trying to tell me, Lissa? Please, for the love of heaven, just come out and say whatever it is you need to say.”

She fastened her gaze to his. “That all the witte wieven legends you’ve just mentioned have a foundation based in fact. The stories began centuries ago in Gelderland, the place from whence I hail as we’ve already discussed. A group of women, all related by blood, settled there during the elder days. Rather than hags or sorceresses, these women and all their female descendants were renowned herbalists and healers. People would travel great distances in order to obtain a cure for their maladies, and those that believe in this gift still do to this day. To my knowledge, the wieven never turned away a soul that had a genuine need.

“Most of these women have what you might deem, magical ability, and some more so than others. For although each woman learns to use the elements of the earth, as well as the energy that surround these elements to accomplish her purposes, individual skill varies. In addition, they are in fact, gifted with the ability to see into the future. Again, some to a greater degree than others.”

“Oh, come on, Lissa,” said Rand. “Surely, you don’t believe that.”

“Yes, actually, I do.” She paused for a moment and then took in a breath. “I believe it, Rand, because I am one.”

He drew his brows together. “You are one what?”

“A descendant of the witte wieven, who has inherited all of the abilities of her ancestors.”

For a moment he said nothing. He simply stared at her. Then, after what seemed an inordinate amount of time he said, “You can’t be serious.”

“Dead serious.”

However, in June of 2010, she submitted her debut novel “Spirit of the Rebellion” to her wonderful, patient, editor at The Wild Rose Press and the rest is history. She now has four published novels to her credit, with a fifth due out in 2014.
