Janiera Eldridge: What Does The Vampire Life Say About Humans?

Janiera is on tour with Soul Sisters, her debut urban fantasy novel!
Congratulations on these two stunning vamps!

The vampire genre started in the 1800’s and it is currently going stronger than ever!   What exactly draws people into reading about the infamous vampire folklore? No matter what new persona the vampire takes on there are certain things that remain the same and keep people wanting to read about vampires.

  • Immortalization: This is a big one. Who doesn’t want to live forever? From Stephanie Meyers to Anne Rice, every vampire has the quality of living forever. Vampire stories allow us to let go of our fear of death and ponder the possibility of eternal life.
  • Beauty: Not every book describes vampires as beautiful creatures but, let’s face it, most moderndepictions of vampires include beauty.  Not only are vampires beautiful but, they don’t age. This is what every Botox toting 40 year-old desires. This feature of the vampire world enables us to enjoy the vampires in their forever young and always virile state.
  • Strength or super power: Most vampires’ tales include vampires with super strength or super powers. Judging by all the super heroes in the human culture it is safe to say we envy their all powerful nature. There are many different vampire super powers that are displayed in different books. Vampires can do everything from punch through concrete walls to read other people minds. We love reading about these features that we would gladly take on ourselves.

There are many reasons people love reading about vampire. One thing is for sure however, with the reinvention of vampires happening ever 10 years or so, they’ll be around for a long time to come!
