Author Interview

  1. Woohoo! You are a published author. Describe a strong character trait you possess, good or bad, and how it helped you become a published author.  Perseverance…okay who am I kidding, I’m totally stubborn. Once I start something I’m not happy until it’s finished and that includes getting my stories published.

  1. Sometimes an author begins writing a story before they are aware of its genre. Did you choose your genre, or did it choose you? Both. When I was writing Now Matter When it started out as a simple time travel romance and when I submitted it my publisher she wanted more smut, so I gave her more smut and BAM! I fell into the Erotic romance genre. But with The Bannockburn Spell was just a romance and I wanted to give it a twist so I specifically aimed for a fairy-tale erotic romance.

  1. Fear 101: As writers it is our duty to make our characters face their fears. Have you ever included one of your own fears in a storyline? Yes I have! I actually used it in Extinct. My character Drew is not a morning person and her main goal is to get a cup of coffee first thing. That’s me, I’m not a morning person at all, I’m not a total bitch in the AM and I can function, I’m just not happy about it.

  1. Fear 102: Yes, deadlines are terrifying. Have you conquered the juggling act between writing and the rest of your life? What do you do when it feels like the balls are dropping all around you? There are some days where I feel like I’m rock’in the juggling act and things go so smoothly, other days…not so much. It depends on the day and what I have going on, but in the end family comes first and that is all there is to it.

  1. Switch positions with one of your main characters in a scene. What is the outcome, disaster or divine intervention? There’s a scene in Extinct where Drew meets the slimy bad guy. If he said to what he said to Drew, regardless who was watching I would have belted him in the face because he totally deserves. He’s the type of guy who thinks women are going for nothing but…well you get the idea it would have been a disaster.

  1. Where is your favorite place to write? Add that one comfort food that you can’t do without. In my home office or out in my front garden. I prefer a nice cup of tea and my furry beast sitting next to me.

  1. Writing inspirations? My writing inspiration come from every where. The idea for Extinct came from a sign that warned me to BEWARE OF THE WOLVES. The Soul Within came from a house we moved into and the idea for The Bannockburn Spell woke me up in the middle of the night. So, I’m guessing that inspiration came from a dream.

  1. You are introduced to your favorite author. Who is it, and what is that one burning question you must ask them? Julie Garwood. For the love writing woman…Why didn’t you give Ramsey from Ransom, his own book?

9. I’ve gone mad – why don’t you come with me? Some people just don’t understand us writers. Name a quirky, writer-thing you do that friends wish you didn’t. LOL My friends have no idea what I do when I’m writing but if they did I’m pretty sure me reading lines out loud to see how they sound and maybe adding an accent when needed would make them roll their eyes or laugh…probably laugh.

Thanks so much for having me today.

Cheers,

Nancy

Excerpt:

“I need you to keep an open mind, Drew. Do you think you can do that?”

She blinked again, surprised by his question. A question she had never been asked before.

“I think so, yes.”

He narrowed his eyes, studying her intently before nodding. “Hold on to the good feelings, baby. It will help push the nervous ones away.” With that said he stood and walked to the bookshelves on the other side of the room. He pulled the copy of Peter Pan from the shelf then walked to his bag and pulled a large leather book free. He stopped in front of her once again, and after she sat up and covered her breasts with the blanket, he gave her the books then sat at the small table.

“Read the inscription in the front of Peter Pan first.” She nodded and opened the old book, flipped through the first few pages until she saw the most elegant handwriting.

She began reading the message.

“April 15th, 1911

Percy,

I know how much you enjoyed seeing the play with your father so many years ago. When I heard that Mr Barrie’s play was becoming a book, I requested a copy for you, so that you might read it whenever you want.

Happy Birthday, my darling son.

Mother”

Drew paused and looked up. “Who’s Percy?”

“I’m Percy.” He rested his elbows on his knees and sighed. “Percival, actually.”

She raised a single eyebrow in doubt. “Percival? But you said…”

“Theodore is my middle name. My family called me Percy when I was living at home.” He nodded toward the much larger book sitting next to her. “Read the next one out loud.” He clasped his hands together. “Start from the beginning.”

She nodded and did as he had asked. As she began reading, she had the distinct feeling that she had seen this same handwriting before.

“My full name is Percival Theodore Grey. Yes, Percival or Percy to my family and close friends. Thankfully, I haven’t been addressed by my full name since before the war. I was born 15 April 1885 in London, England, to Lord Theodore Grey…”

 AuthorPic (1)Author Bio and Links:

I am a full-blooded Canadian, right down to the maple syrup running through my veins. I enjoy watching hockey, but despise skating…and the cold.  I enjoy a good helping of Tourtiere with a side of Poutine as must as the next person, yet I am only bilingual when it comes to swear words.  I am proud to say I survived my token shot of Newfie Screech, although I did refuse to kiss the Cod – that is never going to happen – and I openly admit, that I fell in love with the Rocky Mountains the first time I saw them.

I have many occupations written down in my passport, mom, wife, author…zookeeper!  However, I have to say that writing is by far the easiest part of my day.

I have three small -but legal- addictions: bed lines, lavender, and books.  All of which, are replenished on a regular basis.  Reading into the wee hours of the morning, is one of many bad habits, next to spontaneously rearranging furniture and randomly painting rooms in my house.
